Programming 3b is learning so much! Today they learned about Tuples and Dictionaries along with Classes and Objects. We used cookie cutters and Play-Doh to understand the Classes and Objects topic.
Street Wize Foundation's Ride Safe Youth Bike & Scooter Safety Program educating our youth and children about helmet safety, rules of the road, bicycle and scooter rodeos and basic bike maintenance courses.
Programmed. The studio put on a student showcase toy drive to benefit needy kids. I wasn't able to be there physically, but I put together the program and was with them in spirit. It was a success with lots of toys collected; can't wait to see the video!

Soundpainting is the live composing sign language created by New York composer Walter Thompson for musicians, dancers, actors, poets, and visual artists working in the medium of structured improvisation.
The MSBA Public Awareness Committee (PAC) gave dozens of kindergarteners a crash course in civics with its Law Day 2018 program held May 4 at the Port Discovery Children's Museum in Baltimore. PAC volunteers demonstrated the role and responsibilities of each of the three branches of government with "The Great Candy Debate", which centered on mock legislation to ban candy in school. Subsequently signed into law by the executive branch, the new law was subsequently overturned by the judicial branch. The event marked the PAC's second consecutive Law Day program at Port Discovery.
Myriem Seabron, who co-chairs the Committee with Jessica Praley, says that the positive audience responses to PAC Law Day programming received this year and last “have been completely worth the effort.”
“It is a two-way street of engagement, and such a rewarding way to give back,” says Seabron. “I love the opportunity to showcase a different aspect of our members than these parents and children may be used to seeing.”

25 volunteers showed up for a fun evening of appreciation on Feb. 9. Volunteers gave close to 3,000 hours in 2016 and helped with completion of 30 projects and helping in the Seedling Tree Nursery.
Devoxx 2016 - Reactive Programming
Reactive Programming is receiving quite a bit of attention and for good reasons. It's a nice logical next step from functional programming. It takes the concept of function composition and lazy evaluations to the next level. It streamlines handling of many critical issues that are architectural in nature: resilience, scale, responsiveness, and messaging. In this session, we will start with a quick introduction to reactive programming. We will then dive into code examples and learn how to create reactive applications. We'll learn to implement observables, to deal with errors in a graceful manner, learn both synchronous and asynchronous solutions, hot vs. cold observables, and dealing with backpressures.
